About the brand ❤️
York Region Transit (often referred to as YRT/Viva) is the principal public transportation authority serving the Regional Municipality of York, located immediately north of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. Established in 2001 through the amalgamation of several smaller municipal transit systems, YRT provides an integrated network of local bus services across Toronto’s suburban communities, linking them with regional transit hubs and neighbouring systems like GO Transit and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Its rapid transit arm, Viva, launched in 2005 as a bus rapid transit (BRT) service with distinctive branded vehicles, dedicated stations (“vivastations”), and faster routes along major corridors such as Yonge Street and Highway 7. YRT/Viva is owned and funded by the Regional Municipality of York, with operations delivered under contract by private operators overseen by regional staff. The network continues to expand and modernize to meet growing commuter demand across the region while improving connections to the Greater Toronto Area’s broader transit ecosystem.
