The Mönchengladbach Mavericks were a German American football team based in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded in 1989, they competed in regional leagues before earning promotion to the German Football League (GFL), Germany’s top level of American football, and reaching the playoff semifinals in 2011 — the club’s peak sporting success. However, financial difficulties and loss of league licensing led to the board’s resignation in late 2011, and the team’s senior operations ceased soon after. The organization remained in legal form until its official dissolution on 5 November 2015, with many former players and youth sections absorbed into successor local American football groups. The Mavericks are remembered for contributing to the development and popularity of American football in the region during their active years.
