Careem is a Dubai‑based technology company that began in 2012 as a web‑based car‑booking service and rapidly grew into one of the Middle East’s foremost ride‑hailing and “super‑app” platforms. Its mobile app expanded beyond transportation to include food and grocery delivery, bicycle and electric mobility, digital payments, and other everyday services, serving millions of users across more than 70 cities in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. In January 2020, Careem’s ride‑hailing operations were acquired by Uber Technologies, making it one of the region’s most notable tech acquisitions. While Uber integrated parts of Careem’s mobility business, the broader super‑app ecosystem later saw a majority investment by e&, a major UAE telecom group. Careem continues to operate under its own brand, aiming to simplify daily life through technology and expand its multi‑service offerings in its core markets.
