The Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) is Germany’s federal employment agency, headquartered in Nuremberg and operating as a public-law corporation under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Founded in 1927 and reconstituted in 1952, it was rebranded to its current name in 2004 amid reforms for greater service orientation. The BA administers unemployment insurance, job placement, career counseling, and child benefit payments through national offices, regional directorates, and local job centers. Headed by Andrea Nahles, it serves as one of Germany’s largest public employers and pillars of labor-market governance.
