Friele is a Norwegian coffee brand and one of Norway’s oldest coffee businesses, with origins dating to 1799 when Herman Friele established a trading business in Bergen. Coffee eventually became the company’s main activity, and Friele developed into one of Norway’s leading coffee brands. The company was acquired by Jacobs Douwe Egberts in 2015 and became part of JDE Peet’s. Coffee carrying the Friele name is still produced mainly at the company’s modern facility in Bergen and remains a major brand in the Norwegian coffee market.
