Providence Friars are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. The program competes in NCAA Division I, primarily in the BIG EAST Conference, while men’s and women’s ice hockey compete in Hockey East. The Friars field teams in numerous sports, including basketball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, swimming, track and field, cross country and tennis. The athletic program traces its history to the early 20th century, with the first recorded basketball exhibition played in 1920.
