The Royal Canadian Mint is Canada’s federal Crown corporation responsible for producing the country’s circulation coins and a wide range of numismatic, bullion and commemorative products. Founded in Ottawa in 1908, it originally operated as a branch of the British Royal Mint before becoming part of the Canadian government in 1931 and a Crown corporation in 1969. Today, the Mint operates facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg and also manufactures coins for foreign governments and international customers. It is wholly owned by the Government of Canada and operates commercially under the Royal Canadian Mint Act.
