Scientific Atlanta was an American telecommunications and technology company founded in 1951 in Georgia. It specialized in equipment for cable television, broadband networks, digital video distribution and telecommunications. The company became a major supplier of set-top boxes, cable modems, fiber-optic network equipment and video systems, serving cable and telecommunications operators worldwide. Scientific Atlanta went public in 1959 and grew into one of Georgia's major technology companies. In 2006, Cisco Systems completed its acquisition of Scientific Atlanta for approximately $7 billion, integrating its technologies and operations into Cisco's service-provider business.
