Thrifty Car Rental is an American vehicle-rental brand founded in 1958 as Thrifty Rent a Car System. It developed as a budget-oriented rental company serving cost-conscious leisure and business travelers. Thrifty became publicly traded in 1987 and was acquired by Chrysler Corporation together with Dollar Rent A Car in 1989. After later becoming part of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, it was acquired by Hertz Global Holdings in 2012. Today, Thrifty operates as a Hertz brand through corporate, franchise and licensee locations across international markets, offering affordable car-rental services.
