About the brand ❤️
World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was a prominent American professional wrestling promotion and sports-entertainment brand that operated from 1988 until 2001 and was based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded by media executive Ted Turner, WCW emerged as a national competitor to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and became widely known during the 1990s for its major television shows such as Monday Nitro, which famously competed head-to-head with WWF programming during the “Monday Night War.” The company featured top wrestling talent, innovative divisions including a highly regarded cruiserweight class, and the influential New World Order (nWo) faction. WCW was at one point the leading wrestling promotion in the United States, airing live events and pay-per-views worldwide. Facing financial and creative difficulties toward the end of its run, operations were shut down in 2001, and key assets—including its video library and intellectual property—were acquired by the WWF (now WWE). Though the WCW name is no longer active as an independent promotion, its legacy in professional wrestling history remains significant.
