About the brand ❤️
TagAZ (Taganrog Automobile Plant) was a Russian automotive manufacturer based in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast. Founded in the late 1990s under the Doninvest group, it assembled cars under license from foreign automakers — initially working with South Korean firms (like Daewoo and Hyundai), also producing vehicles under its own brands, including sedans, light trucks, SUVs and compact cars. The plant was designed with modern facilities — welding, painting, assembly and testing — and at its peak had capacity up to 120–180 000 vehicles per year. Despite early ambitions and a diverse model lineup (ranging from license‑built Hyundai cars to the compact TagAZ Aquila), the company struggled with financial difficulties and shrinking demand. After filing for bankruptcy in 2014, production ceased and the TagAZ brand was discontinued, marking the end of one of Russia’s most visible post‑Soviet attempts at building a domestic car manufacturer.
